What to wear to a Moroccan wedding: a caftan guide for guests

Length, colour, belt and comfort: how to choose your caftan as a guest, and whether to buy or rent.

Élara caftan, full length in a sunlit Andalusian courtyard

A Moroccan wedding is a long night of music, family and several changes of dress for the bride. For guests, the caftan or the takchita is the natural choice. A few simple points help you choose well.

Floor length, always

Wedding caftans are worn long, to the floor. Choose your size by bust, waist and hips, and wear the shoes you will dance in when you try it, so the hem falls where it should.

Colour: rich, but leave the spotlight to the bride

Deep jewel tones, champagne, mint, mauve and gold all belong at a wedding. Some families keep pure white for the bride, so if you are unsure, ask the hosts or choose ivory with colour or gold work, like our ivory and gold caftan.

The belt makes the silhouette

The mdama, the belt, shapes the waist and finishes the look. Jewelled belts, like the one on Élara, can replace a necklace; a belt in sfifa is quieter and more traditional.

Think of the whole night

You will sit, stand, dance and eat for hours. Satin and brocade hold their shape; silk chiffon moves with you. A caftan in one layer is lighter; a takchita brings more volume.

Buy or rent?

If you will wear it again, for Eid or other weddings, buying gives you a piece for years, in S, M, L or made to measure. For a single occasion, renting lets you wear haute couture for four days, with cleaning included and delivery anywhere in Spain. See our rental pieces.
